Masks Medical Grade
Universal Masking should be part of every day life, critical to protect you and others from a voice cloud that can travel up to 12 feet. Droplets can linger in the air for up to 15 minutes. Hence the 6 feet social distancing ‘standard’ without a mask is simply not good enough. (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences May 2020, 202006874; DOI: 10.1073/pnas.2006874117)
Cloth masks while easier to access, should only be considered as a last resort to prevent droplet transmission from infected individuals, but it would be better than no protection. Medical masks are far more protective than home-made cloth/material masks. Surgical masks offer:
- 3x better ‘fit’
- 3x better filtration control to small viral particles
(Disaster Medicine and Public H ealth Preparedness / FirstView Article / July 2013, pp 1-6).
Check to see if masks are either FDA or Health Canada approved and/or authenticated in Canada.
